Join us online for UN Youth Australia’s one day Gender Equality, Empowering Humanity summit in collaboration with UN Women Australia.

You’ll hear speeches and participate in Q&A sessions with incredible guest speakers Janelle Weissman (Executive Director of UN Women Australia) and Zahra Al Hilaly (Australia’s representative on the UN Women Beijing +25 Youth Task force).

You’ll also participate in workshops and an Interactive Problem Solving (IPS) activity all centred on understanding the current state of gender equality worldwide and the UN’s involvement in advocating for gender equality.

Zahra Al Hilaly

Zahra is a catalyst for change that has worked within youth leadership at a regional, national and international level. She is currently a Law (Hons) and Journalism student at Murdoch University. Her advocacy work specialises in the field of gender equality, migrant and refugee empowerment and intersectional representation within politics. She currently represents Australia on the UN Women Beijing +25 Youth Taskforce, sits on the YWCA Australia Young Women’s Council and is the MYAN Australia, WA Youth Ambassador. She has further represented Australia internationally multiple times at global meetings and has since been named a UN global leader for gender equality.


Janelle Weissman

For the past twenty-five years, Janelle has worked in program management, partnerships and grantmaking roles to strengthen social justice organisations in the USA, Australia and around the world. As Executive Director of UN Women Australia, Janelle leads a team charged with amplifying UN Women’s global agenda through fundraising and advocacy to advance women in leadership, promote economic empowerment, end all forms of discrimination and violence against women and ensure women’s voices are central to humanitarian response.
